Swedish Birch Dining Table and Six Chairs (Deco Period Circa 1920 -1930) -

A stunning Swedish birch refectory table circa from the 1920s/1930s. The table is marked ‘Made in Sweden’ and some of the chairs also carry a label from ‘Bowman Brothers of Camden’ (see photo). Bowman Brothers department store was open from the mid 1890s to 1950s and imported, and sold furniture to cater for the increasing demand for contemporary furniture. They imported Scandinavian pieces, including some furniture by Alvar Aalto. The table and chairs were part of a larger deco period set from Bowman Brothers. The table has two additional leaves which can be added to extend. The leaves and main section of the table are now a different colour due to sun exposure. We have been happy with it this way, but did speak to a French polisher about the possibility of having it stripped and re-lacquered to make them match, and have been told this would be possible. There has also been a repair to one of extending arms at some point. There are some marks, scratches and areas of fading on the table and chairs, but these are commensurate with age, and we think, add to its appeal. IThe chairs have been recovered at some point (although not by us) but the material is in good condition. The table is 135cm long (without leaves), 195.5cm long (with leaves), 74.5 cm (deep/back to front) and 73 cm high (All measurements are approximate). 240.00 More than happy for anyone interested to have a look at the table. It’s such a lovely piece; it deserves to be seen ‘in person’. Unfortunately we have no way of delivering the set, but will help find a courier/mover if you want us to.
